The University of Utah outdoor track and field team will head back to Provo, Utah, for the Utah Collegiate Classic this week.

THIS WEEK: The University of Utah outdoor track and field team will head back to Provo, Utah, for the Utah Collegiate Classic. Hosted by Brigham Young University, competition for the meet will begin on Friday, May 2, and last through Saturday, May 3.
Select distance runners will travel to Stanford University's campus in Palo Alto, Calif., for the Regional Qualifying Meet. The meet will begin on Friday, May 2, and will continue through Saturday, May 3. All regional athletes who've set qualifying marks throughout the season will be featured at the Stanford Meet this weekend.
QUOTING HEAD COACH LISA ARCHER: "We are looking forward to increased performances from our athletes as the season draws closer to the conference meet," states Archer.
LAST MEET: The University of Utah track and field team finished the final day of competition for the Oregon Invitational on Saturday, April 26. Hosted by the University of Oregon, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Utah State, Weber State, Boise State, Sacramento, Portland State, Washington and Montana State. The Utes had a great meet, setting three NCAA qualifying marks.
Leading the way for Utah were Nellie Hammons, Torin Koos, Colby Frazier and Jeff Davidson. Hammons won the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:34.90 and took fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:09.71. Hammon's 800 meters performance was another NCAA qualifying mark for the sophomore. Frazier finished seventh in the 1,500 meters with a time 3:48.33, which was an NCAA qualifying mark. Davidson posted Utah's third NCAA qualifying mark by placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:07.66. Koos grabbed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.98.
UTES ON THE MOVE: Junior Jeff Davidson has compiled an impressive outdoor season for Utah in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The Burley, Idaho, native will compete in the Regional Qualifying Meet this weekend thanks to an impressive performance at the Oregon Invitational. Davidson has emerged into one of Utah's best competitors in 2003.
The Utes will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the 2003 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which kick off on Wednesday, May 14. Competition for the Championships will continue through Saturday, May 17.
