Track and Field Teams Head to Pocatello

THIS WEEK: The University of Utah Indoor Track and Field team will travel to Pocatello, Idaho, for the Mountain State Games. Competition for the meet will kick off on Friday, Feb. 7 and will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 8. Friday's events will begin at noon with the women's pentathlon. Saturday's action will begin at 9:00 a.m.

LAST MEET: The Utah indoor track and field teams finished competition for the Wilson Motor Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1. Utah athletes continued their success with another impressive performance, wining six events. The meet featured Utah, Southern Utah, Utah State and Long Beach State.

Leading the way for Utah, were Brooke LoBue, Katie Decker, Vanessa Mortensen, Nellie Hammons, and Kristy Slade, who all notched first-place finishes in their respected events. LoBue won the pole vault with a height of 11' 10.00". Decker, a junior, grabbed the high jump in 5' 06.50". The freshman Mortensen won the weight throw with a distance of 54' 5.50". The sophomore Hammons took the 400-meter run with a time of 57.60 and Slade, a senior, took the 60-meter-hurdles (8.86).

The women's 4x400-meter relay team finished first in their event, posting a 3:55.42 time. On the men's side, freshman Derek Sensenstein led the way finishing second in the 800-meter run (1:58.87).

NEXT MEET: Select member of the teams will travel to Reno, Nev., for a meet on Saturday, Feb. 15. The rest of the team will compete in the Time Trials in Kearns, Utah, at the Utah Olympic Oval on Saturday, Feb. 15.
