Indoor Track and Field Teams To Compete In Two Meets

THIS WEEK: The University of Utah Indoor Track and Field teams continue the 2003 season with two meets on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Utah pole vaulters will head to Reno, Nev., for the Pole Vault Summit. The rest of the team will travel to Pocatello, Idaho, for the Snake River Invitational. Hosted by Idaho State, this meet will feature Montana State, Southern Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley State College and Weber State. The meet will start at 9:30 a.m.

LAST MEET: The University of Utah indoor track and field teams kicked off the 2003 season with the Weber State Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 11. The Utes got off to a great start winning three events, while junior Katie Decker set a new indoor personal record in the high jump (5' 7”).

Senior Brooke LoBue placed first in the pole vault (12' 4”), senior Kristy Slade finished first in the long jump (17' 11.50”) and sophomore Nellie Hammons placed first in the 800m (2:18.78).

"This is the best season opener we've had,” stated Head Coach Lisa Archer. "I'm very happy with the times and marks that we posted.”

UTES TO WATCH: Senior Brooke LoBue looks to have another successful indoor season. She is coming off a first-place finish (12'4”) at the Wildcat Invitational. LoBue currently holds the University of Utah pole vault record (13' 5 ¼”).

Senior Kristy Slade continued her indoor success last week at the Wildcat Invitational finishing first in the long jump (17' 11.50”). Slade is coming off a successful 2002 indoor and outdoor track season setting a new school record in the pentathlon (3,775 pts) and a new personal record in the high jump (5' 7”).

NEXT MEET: The Utes will take on Weber and BYU on Saturday, Jan. 25. This will mark the first track and field meet held at the new Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah, after playing host to several 2002 Olympic Events.
