Albuquerque, N.M. - The University of Utah track and field team finished the third day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 16. Hosted by New Mexico, the meet features athletes from all Mountain West Conference outdoor track and field teams. The Utes are coming on strong with conference champions in the pole vault and the hammer throw. After three days of competition, the women's team is in fourth place with a total of 36 points and the men are in sixth place with a total of four points.
Leading the way for Utah were Vanessa Mortensen, Brooke LoBue and Elise Greenwood. Mortensen won the hammer throw with an NCAA qualifying mark of 56.55 meters. LoBue captured the pole vault with an NCAA qualifying height of 3.96 meters. Greenwood finished fourth in the steeplechase. Her time of 11:15.28 is not only a personal record, but also a school record for the sophomore runner.
"We're off to a great start with two conference champions," states head coach Lisa Archer. "We're really proud of our athletes and looking to raise our point total to around 60 tomorrow."
