Mortensen wins hammer throw with PR and new Danish record

PROVO, Utah- The University of Utah track and field team wrapped up day three of the Mountain West Conference Championships today. The team brought home several personal bests and a new Regional Qualifying mark.

"We really had an outstanding day, and I am very, very proud of our girls," commented head coach Kyle Kepler. "Our women are going above and beyond right now and running the best they have all year."

Vanessa Mortensen won the hammer throw with a new personal record and Danish record of 205 feet. In the long jump, Amanda Feigt achieved a regional qualifying mark of 19-08.00. Nikki Mancineli finished 5th in the high jump (5-04.50) and AJ Roby placed 4th in the discus (162-04).

In the 100m hurdles, Jennifer Cutrer qualified for the finals with a new personal best time of 14.03 and a 4th place finish. Both Jen Fresques and Amanda Feigt also qualified for the finals in the 400m hurdles. Fresques ran 60.82 and placed 4th, while Feigt ran 60.92 and finished 5th. In addition, Janett Ern qualified for the finals in the 800m finishing 8th (2:16.03). The finals in these events will be held tomorrow, May 13.

Both Ashley Patterson and Candice Mannion obtained personal records in the 400m. Patterson ran 56.57 and placed 10th, while Mannion ran 57.11 and finished 11th. IN the 200m, Ashley Patterson and Hailey McAllister attained personal records. Patterson finished 15th (25.09) and McAllister finished 16th (25.19).

 

 

Today's meet ends with the 10,000m.

"I couldn't be more proud of this bunch of women. Hopefully we can put a cap on the day with a good 10,000m from Kelly, come in strong tomorrow and really make things happen, and finish as high as we can."

The conference championships meet will come to a close tomorrow, May 13th with the finals of the sprints and the rest of the throwing events.
