OGDEN, Utah - The University of Utah women's track and field team continued to raise the performance bar as it readied for the Mountain West Conference Championships at the Weber State Twilight Meet here in Ogden, Utah, this evening.
The Utes saw three event champions tonight as Amanda Feigt, AJ Roby and Vanessa Mortensen all took home event titles. Feigt won the long jump (19-2), Roby the discus (157-1 ½) and Mortensen the hammer throw (189-8).
"This meet was a great turne-up for the upcoming Mountain West Conference Championships," remarked head coach Kyle Kepler. "We accomplished some great things this evening and it's great to see our confidence grow with all the new PR's we've had the last few weeks. Now we have a week to rest and mentally prepare for a great performance at the conference meet."
Three Utes turned in regional-qualifying marks as well. Roby was a regional qualifier in the discus while Mortensen posted a qualifying mark in the hammer. Mortensen had already qualified in the hammer previously this year. The third mark came from Susan Atwater who finished second in the pole vault. She topped the 12-foot mark with a regional-qualifying mark of 12-5 ½.
A pair of second-place showings also highlight the Utes' efforts tonight. Jen Cutrer turned in a second-place finish in the 100m hurdles. She clocked it 14.44, the second-best time by Cutrer this year. The other second-place finish came from Roby, who took runner-up in the shot put (45-6).
The Utes also had a bevy of third-place finishes. Haley McAllister was third in the 100m (12.64) while Feigt (14.67, 100m hurdles) and Ashley Patterson (25.61, 200m) were also third in their respective events.
