TEMPE, Ariz. - The Utah outdoor track and field team finished competition at the Baldy Castillo Invitational on Saturday, March 22. The Utes kicked off the 2003 outdoor season with strong performances from athletes on both sides.
Leading the way for the women were Nellie Hammons, Katie Decker, Jen Jackman, and Elise Greenwood. Hammons, who had a very successful indoor season, began her outdoor season with a win in the 800 meters (2:10.81). Decker finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.70 meters. Jackman had a great meet finishing third in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time of 1:01.36 is a new personal record and ranks third on Utah's all-time list. Jackman's performance also qualified her for the NCAA Regional Championships. Greenwood finished third in the 5,000-meter run, while notching a time of 17:50.76.
On the men's side, Jeff Davidson led the team by placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. His time of 9:13.42 was a new personal record and ranks seventh on Utah's all-time list. Colby Frazier also had a good meet placing third in the 1,500-meter run and seventh in the 800-meter run.
