POCATELLO, Idaho - The University of Utah indoor track and field teams finished the second day of competition of the Mountain State Games on Saturday, Feb. 7. Hosted by Idaho State and held at the Holt Arena, the meet featured athletes from Montana State, Montana, Utah State, Weber State, Brigham Young, Utah Valley State, Southern Utah and Sacramento State.
Leading Utah in the second day were Nellie Hammons and Katie Decker, who both notched first-place finishes in their respective events. Hammons won her fourth straight 800m with a 2:12.90 finish and won the open 400m (56.60). Her mark in the 400m is not only a personal record but a school record as well. This is also the first time, this season, she has competed in that event. Decker won her second straight high jump posting a 5' 8.00" mark.
Veterans Tracy Hamblin, Trisha Wagner, Natasha Eldridge and newcomer Amanda Feigt continued to be consistent posting several impressive marks. Hamblin and Wagner finished second (12' 7.00") and fourth (12' 1.00") in the pole vault respectively. Eldridge finished fourth (51' 10.00") in the weight throw while Feigt finished second in the long jump (18' 8.75").
On the men's side, Nephi Tyler and Matt Hansen led the way. Tyler finished third in the open 800m with a 1:56.04 finish. Hansen finished sixth in the open mile run with posting a 4:33.55 finish.
