The University of Utah indoor track and field teams finished competition for the Weber State Wildcat Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 24. Held at the Swenson Multi-Purpose Area, the meet featured athletes from Utah, Brigham Young, Weber State and Utah Valley State College. The Utes got a chance to use this meet as a warm-up for next week's competition in Boise, Idaho.
Leading the way for the women were Nellie Hammons, Trisha Wagner and Tracy Hamblin, who all notched first-place finishes in their respective events. Hammons won the mile run with an impressive 5:15.66 finish while Wagner and Hamblin tied in the pole vault with a height of 11' 11.00".
The women's team also got strong performances from newcomers Amanda Feigt and Susan Atwater. Feigt finished fourth in the long jump (18' 6.25) and posted a 26.57 finish in the 200m. Atwater finished third in the pole vault with a height of 11' 5.00".
"This meet was a lot of fun and my marks were really good for this early in the season," states Feigt.
On the men's side, veterans Delfino Arevalo and Nephi Tyler and newcomer Casey Chow led the way. Arevalo won the 3,000m run with a time of 9:07.95. Tyler finished third in the mile run with a 4:21.04 finish while Chow took third in the pole vault with a height of 13' 2.00".
"We trained through this meet," states Head Coach Lisa Archer. "We were working on the technical aspects of the field events. This meet will help us gain confidence for next week's meet."
