Chelsea Shapard placed first in the 300m dash

Provo, Utah The University of Utah Track and Field team started their season off strong in their season opener at the BYU Invitational.
Throwing events were held Friday, senior Becky Riddle placed first in the women's weight throw (17.08m) second in the women's shot put (12.43m) respectively. Not far behind Riddle was Sarah Cardinal who placed fourth in the women's weight throw (14.96m) and fifth in shot put (11.25m) Chastity Toilolo placed fifth in the weight throw (13.62m) and third in shot put (12.10m)
The Utes came close to sweeping the 1 mile run with finishes from Alyssa Abbott (third, 5:17.38), Chelsea DiGrazia (fourth, 5:20.83), Stephanie Skoreyko (fifth, 5:21.17). Lauren Endersen (sixth, 5:23.59), and Kellie Anderson (5:31.15).
Senior Amanda Feigt placed second in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.82m while sophomore Haley McAllister placed third (5.44m). In the triple jump Ashley Patterson took second with a distance of 11.49m, with Sarah McFee not far behind placing third with 11.30m.
Utah had five runners in the top 20 in the 300 meter dash led by sophomore Chelsea Shapard (first, 41.16), Whitney Wellington (eighth, 42.69), Desi Shaw (12th, 43.23), Jessica Suddaby (14th, 43.43) and Candice Mannion (19th, 44.21). And junior Jennifer Cutrer placed second in the 60 meter hurdles in 8.90 sec.
