Utah Divers Finish First Day Strong at Air Force Invite

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of Utah divers Kelsey Patterson and Sterling Richards claimed top honors in the 3-meter diving event at the Air Force Diving Invitational.

Patterson led the competition from the preliminary round to the finals. Patterson beat out 30 other divers in the prelims, scoring 298.65 points. The junior then competed against the top eight finishers from the prelims, tallying 303.15 points in the finals to claim first place.

Freshman Anna Braszkiwiecz tallied 255.65 points in the prelims to claim fourth place going into the finals. However, Braszkiwiecz only managed to score 237.70 points in the finals to place eighth overall in the event.

Richards also led the field from the prelims through the finals. The senior scored 363.85 points in the prelims, with 18 divers competing overall. Richards then scored 357.50 points in the finals to beat out the top eight finishers for the win.

Andy Jones (273.70 points) edged out fellow Ute Damien Brown (271.40 points) for the final spot in the finals before tallying 301.40 points to finished third overall in the event.

The diving invitational continues tomorrow with the 1-meter scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the platform diving around 1 p.m. back at the Cadet Natatorium.
