The University of Utah women's swimming and diving team will host two conference opponents this weekend. On Friday, Jan. 16, Utah will face New Mexico at 6:00 p.m., followed by a meet with Colorado State on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 4:00 p.m. Both meets will be held at the Ute Natatorium.
Utah heads into the weekend with a 5-1 overall record and is 2-0 in MWC competition. At 2-0 the Utes are in second-place in the conference standings behind Colorado State (3-0).
The Utes hold several of the conference's top times up to this point in the season. Meghan Demchuk has the best time in the 100 fly (57.56) and 200 fly (2:03.74). Tessa Greegor has the top time in the 100 breast (1:03.42). Rachel Curci holds the second fastest time in the 1000 free. Alison McInturff holds the second-place time in the 100 free. Loren Sweny holds the second best time in the 200 back.
The Ute men have the week off and will resume competition on Jan. 22, as they travel to Wyoming.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO AND COLORADO STATE:
New Mexico heads into the meet with the Utes with a 0-3 record in MWC competition. Last season the Utes beat the Lobos 130-104. New Mexico comes into the meet off a 154-144 loss to Air Force. Colorado State is 3-0 and in first-place overall in the MWC standings. Last season the Utes lost to Colorado State 172-126 in Fort Collins. Last weekend the Rams beat San Diego State 168-130 and Air Force 213-87.
LOOKING BACK AT UC IRVINE AND UC SAN DIEGO:
On Jan. 9, the Utes lost to UC Irvine 142-81, as they got off to a slow start in the meet and could not fight their way back. Utah bounced back from the loss with a big win against UC San Diego on Jan. 10. In the UC San Diego meet the Utes were led by Tessa Greegor who won the 100 breast (1:05.01), 200 breast (2:24.42) and the 200 medley relay (1:48.24). Utah also saw Rachel Curci, Jamie Trapp and Meghan Demchuk win two events each.
