OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Utah women's swimming and diving team is now in third-place after the second day of competition at the MWC swimming and diving championships. The Utes hold third-place with 196 points, trailing BYU (263 points) and Wyoming (262 points). The Utah men more than doubled their point total with from the first day of competition with ¬¬¬123 points. The men remain in sixth-place trailing first-place UNLV (295 points) after the second day.

Shannon McQueen (Ottawa, Ontario) started the Utes out with a fourth-place finish in the 500 free with her time of 4:51.53. Whitney Lopus (Scottsdale, Ariz.) didn't make the top cut in the preliminaries for the event, but finished with a time of 4:50.49, which earned her ninth-place.

Hannah Caron (Raleigh, N.C.) broke the school record of 2:00.55 in the 200 IM, a record she set earlier in the season. Her time of 1:59.18 put her in second in the event behind UNLV's Zsuzsanna Jakabos. Jakabos finished with at time of 1:58.47, upsetting Caron and setting a new MWC record.

The women's 200 free relay team composed of Natalie Edge (South Jordan, Utah), Annie VanLeeuwen (West Valley City, Utah), Kristina Evans (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Lopus finished in a time of 1:31.91, breaking the previous Utah school record of 1:31.93, good for a second place finish.

 

 

Adam Oliver (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who's time of 4:24.32 in the 500 free was the best time in the conference during the regular season for the event, finished in eighth-place for the Utes with his time of 4:31.13. UNLV's Kair Maitland finished in first-place, breaking the MWC record in the event with his time of 4:20.75 and earning a B standard for the NCAA Championships.

John Baque (Olympia, Wash.) also finished in eighth-place with his time of 1:52.39 in the 200 IM.

The Utes continue competition all day Friday in Oklahoma City.
