SALT LAKE CITY - With day one at a close, Utah Men's Swimming and Diving trails 15-4 against No. 6 USC. Out of the six events completed tonight, only the 1000 free results will count toward the competition's final score tomorrow.
“I think we did great today,” said Utah head coach Greg Winslow. “Our guys had some really good swims. This two-day meet really shows us what’s important going into the conference championships; if a guy can swim at night at still be ready to come back and swim in the morning. If there is a problem there, we can fix it. I think the guys are having fun and that we’ll swim even better tomorrow.”
The Utes 400 medley relay came up just short with Kristian Kron, Bence Kira'ly, Fernandes and Soedel touching in second with a time of 3:17.78. In the first leg of the relay, Kron recorded the fourth-fastest 100 back time in Utah school history (48.72).
Kron excelled in the backstroke for the second time later in the evening, touching in 23.16 in the 50 back to earn the win.
