FORT WORTH, TEXAS - The University of Utah women's swimming and diving team continues to roll in the Mountain West Conference with its win over TCU 178-121. The men's team fell to the Horned Frogs 160-123.
The women got strong performances all around; including Amber Walter who won four events. Walter won the 200-medley relay (1:46.44), 50 free (23.34), 100 free (52.16) and the 200-free relay (1:35.69). Kelsey Patterson boosted the Utes on the diving front, beating TCU's Jennifer Ferguson in both the one-meter diving and three-meter diving. Ferguson has been named conference Diver of the Week five times this season. Patterson scored a 303.08 in the three-meter diving and a 282.30 in the one-meter diving. "The girls did a great job today," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "They are rolling now and showing what it takes to do well in February when the conference championships take place."
The men struggled to match TCU on Saturday, falling to the Horned Frogs by 37 points. Andrew Jones won the one-meter diving for the Utes, scoring 289.43. The 200-medley relay team of Andrew Cole, Michel DeCarolis, Andrew Brown and David Maasberg won with a time of 1:36.22. "All the credit goes to TCU, they swam a great meet and out did us," adds Litzinger. The guys just didn't get the job done today."
Utah moves to 5-0 (3-0 in MWC competition) for the women, while the men drop to 3-5 (0-2 in MWC competition). Next up for the Utes is a trip to Colorado State on Thursday, January 18, then off to New Mexico on Saturday, January 20.
