Joel White enters his second season as the Utah assistant men's swimming coach. Before joining the Ute staff, he was the head coach at Homestead High School (Wis.) for both the men and women's programs from 2001-03. At Homestead, the women's team placed fourth in state in both 2001 and 2002, the men's team finished sixth in 2002 and seventh in 2003.
White also served as an assistant coach at the Schroeder YMCA from March 2002-May 2003. In addition, he worked four years at the University of Texas Longhorn Swim Camp. Last year he was an assistant coach and was also a counselor the previous three. Prior to that, White was the head coach of the Lost Creek Hurricanes from 1998-2000.
During his time as a coach White has coached six state-champion swimmers along with 13 high school All-Americans.
White was a varsity swimmer at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where he earned a mechanical engineering degree. The team captain in 2000-01, his team won the MCC Championship in 2000. White earned the Captain's Award in 1999 and 2000. White was also the recipient of the Coaches Award and the Scholar Athlete Award in 1998.
An Austin, Texas native, White is currently working toward a graduate degree in Psychosocial Aspects of Sport.
