SALT LAKE CITY -- University of Utah head skiing coach Eli Brown has signed one of the top American skiers to a national letter-of-intent, securing alpine skier Tague Thorson.

"Tague will add depth to our team," said Brown. "Adding Tague to one of the strongest men's alpine teams in the country is icing on the cake. We are very excited to have him join the Skiin' Utes."

Thorson finished the 2006 season with six top-10 finishes in his last seven races. In all, he tallied nine top-10 marks last season. Among his top finishes was a championship effort in the giant slalom at the University Race in Innerkrems, Austria. He tallied two third-place slalom showings on the FIS circuit in addition to a number of fourth-place efforts.

"I cannot be more excited to have Tague Thorson joining The University of Utah ski team," said alpine coach Jaka Korencan. "Tague is one of the most talented young skiers in the nation right now and I believe he will have an immediate impact on our team.

"Beside his athletic talent, Tague is extremely motivated, dedicated, and a hard-working guy who will be a great motivator and an excellent example for the rest of the team. With pursuing a degree in computer engineering he will be a great example of successfully combining academics and athletics."

Korencan continues, "Tague is definitively an excellent addition to our team and I am glad we can be part of his future academic and athletic success."

A native of Minnesota, Thorson has been racing out of Park City.
