Freshman Noé Bellet of the University of Utah ski team was announced as the RMISA's Men's Nordic Skier of the Week after taking fifth in the 20-km Freestyle and tying for seventh in the 10-km Classical Feb. 22-23 at the RMISA Championships in Bozeman, Mont.
"I am surprised, but very honored to receive this award," Bellet said. "I really enjoyed being a part of the team this season. We worked hard and pushed each other to be better and better at every invitational. The team spirit is strong. Now the season is over for me, but I am 100% behind my teammates who are competing this week at the NCAA Championships. They'll be strong for sure."
Bellet took 10th or better in eight races this year and his season-high finish was a fourth-place effort in the 5-km Classical at the New Mexico Invitational on Feb. 1.
"It is a testament to the depth of the Utah men's Nordic team that we just left an RMISA Skier of the Week off of the NCAA Championship team. (Bellet was listed as an alternate)," Utah Head Nordic coach Abi Holt said. "Noé has skied a very impressive debut season and he is clearly poised for a successful career as a Ute skier. It was hard to leave him home this week, but this honor is certainly hard-earned and well deserved. He is a great athlete and a great team member. I look forward to more years with Noé on the team."
Bellet is the third Ute to be named an RMISA Men's Nordic Skier of the Week as senior Miles Havlick was named after the Colorado Invitational and Einar Ulsund was recognized for his effort at the New Mexico Invitational.
Other Ute selections were Andy Trow as the Men's Alpine Skier of the Week after the RMISA Qualifiers, sophomore Ana Kobal with the Women's Alpine Skier of the Week honor for the New Mexico Invitational and senior Ryan Wilson for his performance in the Men's Alpine events at the Utah Invitational.
All-RMISA Teams will be released shortly as well.
