PARK CITY, Utah -- Marianne Winge placed first among the collegiate competitors in the giant slalom to help put Utah in first place after the first day of the Utah/Alaska-Anchorage Invitational at Park City Mountain Resort. The Utes are in first place with 109 points. Colorado is second with 106 points, followed by New Mexico (99) and Denver (76). Winge had a total time of 1:55.44. Tina Kavcic placed third with a clocking of 1:55.89. Alicia Howard, who did not count in Utah's scoring, finished 15th overall with a time of 1:59.51. Two Utes placed in the top four on the men's side. Mike Elvidge placed third among the collegiate competitors with a total time of 1:48.40. Ryan Forsyth had a time of 1:48.49 to place fourth. Freshman Peter Shaffer was 16th with a time of 1:52.16. The invitational will continue with the slalom, beginning with the men's first run at 9:30 a.m., and the freestyle cross country races, starting at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday.
