SALT LAKE CITY -- The University of Utah nordic skier Fabian Figi attempted to break the 100-meter U.S. World Record at West Yellowstone, Mont. last week. After three attempts at the prestigious record, the Ute newcomer finished with his best time of 12.73. This impressive mark places him seconds behind the previous U.S. men's record of 12.76.

Kevin Hocht (Rossignol/Vail) set the newly acclaimed world record for the 100-meter sprints, notching an 11.94 mark. The previous men's world record was 12.48.

"This was a fun race and a great experience," said head coach Eli Brown. "Fabian was skating with some of the best sprinters in the world and he was extremely close to beating the record. The U.S. Ski Team always does a great job putting on this race and we was excited to take part in the event."
