BOZEMAN, Mont.- The University of Utah ski team fell into fifth place after one day of competition at the NCAA championships. The only events that took place today were the men's and women's giant slalom.
In the men's David Viele of Dartmouth college took the victory with a time of 108.45. The three Utes skiing in competition were Ryan Forsyth, Mike Elvidge and Alain Britt-Cote. Forsyth finished a team high 6th, Elvidge placed 11th and Britt-Cote took 28th.
In the women's giant slalom, Caroline Gedde Dahl of Colorado won the race. The Ute competitor were Sabrina Lawrence who finished 6th, Marianne Winge who placed 10th and Alicia Howard who took 35th.
Ski competition will continue tomorrow with the 10K classic cross country races. After Wednesday, skiing will continue until Saturday.
