WINTER PARK, Colo. - While temperatures dropped and winds swirled, the University of Utah Skiin' Utes got off to a blazing start at the Denver Invitational, occupying third place after day one.
In the men's 10K the Utes turned in one of their best performances of the season with four Utah skiers finishing in the top 15. Fabian Figi and Snorri Einarrson continued their fast skiing, finishing fourth and fifth, with Figi (30:16.9) finishing moments ahead of teammate Einarsson (30:18.9). Ben Fick (31:09.2, 11th) and Even Sletten (31:12.0, 12th) had a similar neck-and-neck finish.
The women were led (as they have been all season) by Sara Schweiger, whose time of 18:24.2 was good enough for a 10th place finish. Close behind was Sarah MacCarthy, who placed 18th with a time of 18:38.5.
