Shaffer will enter his third year at the collegiate level after coaching in the intermountain divisions for the last four years.
Prior to Utah, the Aspen, Colo., native headed the J-3 Snowbird ski team from 2004-05 and enjoyed watching the up-and-coming junior skiers dominate the Intermountain Division as well as the Junior Olympics ranks.
The downhill biking specialist is currently racing semi-pro for Guthrie Bicycles in Salt Lake City. Shaffer is a former member of the Utah ski team and tallied three top-20 finishes in 1999-00, while helping to lead Utah to two fourth-place finishes at the NCAA Skiing Championships. Shaffer graduated with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science and behavioral science and health, and also received a minor degree in psychology.
"I'm very excited to be apart of this very talented team and I look forward to a very fun and successful season at Utah," says Shaffer.
