Utah Athletics Names Katelyn Rimmel as Compliance Director and Nate Burk as Coordinator

SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah Athletics Department has hired Katelyn Rimmel as its Director of Compliance and Nate Burk as Compliance Coordinator. Sean Farrell, who has worked at Utah five years and joined the compliance staff in 2011, has been promoted to Assistant Director of Compliance. The announcement came today from Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance, Kate Charipar.

Rimmel comes to the U. after spending the past two years at the University of Houston as the Compliance Coordinator. She was responsible for all aspects of compliance for women's tennis, men's golf, women's basketball, and men's and women's cross country and track & field.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Rimmel graduated from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a B.S. in sport management. She earned a J.D. from the University of Akron School of Law in 2010 and was sworn into the Ohio Bar on Nov. 8, 2010. While in law school, Rimmel worked for the Mid-American Conference as a legal extern for compliance. She was also a compliance graduate assistant at Akron was hired as an assistant director after graduation.

Rimmel has also worked in video productions for 12th Man Productions at Texas A&M (2005-07) and in merchandising for the Cleveland Indians (2001-07).

Burk joins the Utah staff after recently graduating from the American University-Washington College of Law. He also served as a compliance intern at American University during the 2011-12 academic year. Burk serves as the point of contact for all monitoring activities at the U. He also assists with drafting waivers and violation reports, conducting education sessions, and compiling departmental audits.

Burk earned a bachelor's degree in French and a business minor from the University of Utah. He also worked in athletics merchandise sales at the University Campus Store. Burk, who is married with two children, was born in Pocatello, Idaho, and raised in Farmington, Utah.

Farrell has two degrees from the University of Utah, earning his bachelor's 2007 and an MBA in 2012. Farrell joined the athletics department staff in 2007, working four years in ticketing before moving over to compliance a year ago. He is a native of Pocatello, Idaho.
