New student-athletes at the University of Utah attend the Life Skills class.

Career preparation at the University of Utah begins with incoming freshmen and continues through graduation. We strongly recommend that student-athletes regularly visit the Life Skills Center in the Burbidge Academic Center. The Life Skills Center offers a career self-assessment program designed to help each individual student-athlete identify his or her academic and career goals. The Center also has reference materials available for interested student-athletes to become more aware of occupational fields. Career Services on campus can also help students make decisions about choosing a major.

Our main objective is for our student-athletes to graduate, become leaders and make a strong contribution to our society. All of the opportunities we provide our student-athletes are permitted under NCAA regulations.

The Life Skills Center offers these services:

  • Summer jobs, internships and practical experiences
  • Employment opportunities, interviews, and business contacts.
  • Morning "breakfast" programs that allow student-athletes to learn more about a particular business/career.
  • Work experience related to the student-athletes' goals.
  • Volunteer work to enhance student-athletes' resumes and help them make career decisions about fields that they may not have considered.
  • Mentors in their fields of study.
  • Career Counseling
  • PinPoint-a computerized career guidance program to help students develop career goals and provide the information needed to attain them.
  • "Choosing and Informing" a workshop on majors
  • Graduate school information
