SALT LAKE CITY - Chris Ritrievi, who has 23 years of experience as a college athletics administrator and fundraiser, has been named the Associate Athletics Director for External Relations at the University of Utah. The announcement came today from Dr. Chris Hill, Utah Athletics Director/Special Assistant to the President.

In his new position, Ritrievi (pronounced Rih-TREE-vee) will serve as Utah's Director of Development for Athletics, which includes the Crimson Club, and will supervise the marketing department. He spent the past six years as the Senior Associate Athletics Director and Director of Development at Michigan State University.

Under Ritrievi's leadership, Michigan State's office of Athletic Development raised over $66 million since July of 1999. Cash giving increased 84 percent over the five best previous years in the athletic department's history.

Prior to joining the staff at MSU, Ritrievi spent seven years as the Director of Athletics at the University of Northern Iowa. At UNI, Ritrievi oversaw a 19-sport Division I athletics program. Prior to that, he held athletics fundraising positions at Stanford, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Bowling Green.

A former Division I athlete, Ritrievi earned three varsity letters in wrestling at Princeton, where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1979. Ritrievi received his masters in business administration from Lehigh in 1983. Chris and his wife, Stephanie, will move to Salt Lake City this summer. His appointment at the U. begins July 1.

"We're thrilled to have someone of Chris' experience join our staff and lead this critical area for many years to come," said Hill.

"I am excited to join the Utah athletics program and look forward to helping our coaches and student-athletes accomplish great things on and off of the playing field," said Ritrievi. "Stephanie and I also look forward to being part of the University of Utah family and the Salt Lake City community."
